Building College Vocabulary strategy approaches vocabulary development with a systematic strategy called SSCD: See and Say the word, use Structural analysis, apply Context clues, and incorporate Dictionary language. It addresses the need for identifying learning styles of individual learners with suggestions for further understanding and assimilation of the terms, allowing them to develop a repertoire of memory steps to improve retention of information.
Aids students who don't have the time to look in the dictionary for the meaning of each unfamiliar word, easing comprehension by not interrupting reading.
Gives students one of the most current learner-friendly styles inventory that enables them to adapt their learning to a variety of situations.
Enhances students' learning by providing interesting and compelling practice exercises as well as review and word lists that are common in everyday reading.
Gives students additional tools to help improve memory.
Teaches students challenging words they will need to know for their future college careers.

This new vocabulary text addresses the need for identifying learning styles by exposing students to the VARK Learning Inventoryencouraging every type of learner to use the skills they already have to master hundreds of new words.
BUILDING COLLEGE VOCABULARY STRATEGIES also approaches vocabulary development with a unique and proven systematic strategy called SSCD: (1) See and Say the word; (2) use Structural analysis; (3) apply Context clues; and (4) incorporate Dictionary knowledge. Numerous practice exercises further reinforce comprehension of the word lists.
Part II of the text includes four chapters of discipline-specific words, covering Government and History Business, Sociology, and Biologythereby exposing students to words they would encounter in their other textbooks.
