World Languages

For courses in Elementary Spanish.

Based on the most up-to-date research in second language acquisition, Impresiones features an active learning approach that leads students to discover their communicative needs before learning and applying the appropriate communicative responses. Students build communicative competence as they learn to use the language in the context of the rich and diverse cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.

• Explicit focus on pragmatic functions.

  • Students take their first steps toward complete communicative competence by focusing on language use in real-world contexts.

• Strong emphasis on the four skills with systematic attention to strategies.

  • Emphasis is placed on when and how to focus students' attention on form and meaning helping them to reach higher levels of linguistic complexity.

• Engaging, carefully scripted video—Reinforces and extends the linguistic and cultural material presented in the text.

  • Students see the language being used in real-world contexts as they experience first-hand the linguistic and cultural diversity of the Hispanic world.

• Complete student activities manual available online.

  • Electronic version of the student activities manual, available in a variety of platforms along with the associated audio program, has a grade book feature that simplifies homework management for the instructor. Students receive immediate feedback on their homework and have the flexibility of working on their assignments wherever they have an Internet connection.
