Financial Accounting: A Business Process Approach attempts to bridge the gap between business and accounting. It starts out by setting the stage with a description of what a business is all about. This provides a framework in which students can see how accounting relates to and reports on business activities. This book shows how accounting fits into business as a company is created, operated, and expanded.
The traditional financial statements and the accounting equation are emphasized; but how accounting relates to business processes is at the core. The book is for financial statement users and preparers. It's for accounting majors and non-majors and even for non-business majors.

This version of Reimers introduces debits and credits in Chapter 4 and then contains integrated treatment of debits and credits in all subsequent chapters. For faculty who prefer to minimize the amount of debits and credits, please review Reimers' Financial Accounting: A Business Process. This volume includes only a single chapter (4) on the procedures and it may be omitted if desired.

Business Process Model—All students taking accounting need to understand business processes. Every chapter opens with the same image of the business process model. The icon appears in the margin to show where the business process links to the accounting procedures.
- Students can see which part of the model will be discussed in each chapter because different parts of the model are highlighted.

Running Cases: Tom's Wear—In Chapter One, students are introduced to Tom, an entrepreneur who decides to create a T-shirt business.
- Students will learn financial accounting concepts through Tom's experiences as he grows and expands his business in subsequent chapters.

Merchandising and Inventory—Reimers has already introduced students to a merchandising business in Chapter 1 (Tom's Wear) so students are well prepared for the inventory and merchandising material in Chapter 6.
- Covers both topics together which is far easier to understand and provides an overview of all of the inventory methods (perpetual, periodic, LIFO, FIFO, etc.) in a single chapter so that students can compare and contrast the methods within the chapter.

Integration of Statement of Cash Flows, Business Risks, and Internal Controls—Reimers introduces the Statement of Cash Flows, Business Risks, and Internal Controls in Chapter 1 and then integrates them throughout the chapters whenever possible.

Integration of Excel—Excel is integrated into every chapter using information on Tom's Wear. Additional Excel problems are found in the Getting Started with Excel for Tom's Wear manual which may be packaged for free with new copies of the Reimers' text.

Emphasis on the Financial Statements—Financial statements are first introduced in Chapter 1. Throughout all of the chapters, students are consistently presented with financial statements from Tom's Wear as well as from real businesses such as the Finish Line, Starbucks, etc.

Focus—Every chapter offers a quick review of what students have just learned (“Here's where we've been…”) and a preview of where they're headed (…Here's where we're going”) so that they are prepared to tackle new concepts throughout the rest of the chapter.
