Janet is the author of articles on nursing and medicine and the books Majoring in Nursing and Keys to Science Success. She is a contributor to the Keys to Success in College Reader on scientific research and health sciences careers. She is active in advancing the profession of nursing and its mission of disease prevention, health promotion, and health care advocacy for individuals, families, and communities, both locally and globally. After several careers that include work as a family-planning counselor in central Massachusetts; research assistant at the University of Washington in Seattle; horseshoer in Palouse, WA; and stage technician at Washington State University, she became a registered nurse. She lives in Spokane, WA, with her husband, who teaches biology, and their two dogs.

Carol Carter is president of LifeBound, Seminars and Coaching for High School Students, College Students, and Graduates. She is the author or co-author of 17 books on college, career, and life success, including Majoring in the Rest of Your Life: Success Strategies for Students, Majoring in High School, The Career Tool Kit, Keys to Career Success, Keys to Effective Learning, and Keys to Success. In 1992, Carol and other businesspeople cofounded a nonprofit organization called LifeSkills, Inc., to help high school students explore their goals, their career options, and the real world through part-time employment and internships. Her syndicated column, Hire Education, appears in newspapers around the country.

Joyce Bishop holds a PhD in psychology and has taught for more than 20 years, receiving a number of honors, including Teacher of the Year. For the past four years she has been voted "favorite teacher" by the student body and Honor Society at Golden West College, Huntington Beach, CA, where she has taught since 1986 and is a tenured professor. She is currently working with a federal grant to establish learning communities and workplace learning in her district, and has developed workshops and trained faculty in cooperative learning, active learning, multiple intelligences, workplace relevancy, learning styles, authentic assessment, team building, and the development of learning communities. She also coauthored Keys to Effective Learning.

Sarah Lyman Kravits comes from a family of educators and has long cultivated an interest in educational development. She coauthored The Career Tool Kit, Keys to Study Skills, and the first edition of Keys to Success and has served as program director for LifeSkills, Inc., a nonprofit organization that aims to further the career and personal development of high school students. In that capacity she helped to formulate both curricular and organizational elements of the program, working closely with instructors as well as members of the business community. She has also given faculty workshops in critical thinking, based on the Thinktrix critical-thinking system. Sarah holds a BA in English and drama from the University of Virginia, where she was a Jefferson Scholar, and an MFA from Catholic University.

Nursing is the largest health occupation in the world and with the current shortage, qualified nurses are more in demand than ever. Keys to Nursing Success is designed to promote a realistic understanding of nursing, explore the exceptional opportunities nursing careers offer, and help students prepare for the rigors of nursing school. Emphasis is placed on how to study the sciences, how to develop critical thinking skills, and the importance of liberal arts courses in building a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
