A fundamental feature of this book is the integration of the classic textbook model with emerging areas of instructional technology.  The text features a highly-current, graphic-rich treatment of basic weather and climate principles.  In addition,  a CD-ROM accompanies every copy of this book and contains instructional resources that are closely keted to the textbook.  The CD has been carefully designed to be simple to use.  No installation is required.

The software on the CD-ROM is tightly integrated with the textbook.  The fourth edition of the text features a new, larger format that allows for very strong integration between the digital media and the printed materials.  Screen shots from the accompanying media along with explanatory text appear at appropriate places in the text's narrative.

Most fundamental to this approach are the computer tutorials that cover basic principles of atmospheric science.  the tutorials employ animations and a high degree of student interactivity to present material not easily understood or visualized using conventional media.  The software modules have undergone extensive testing, and have been used successfully by tens of thousands of students.

The fourth edition has been thoroughly updated throughout.  Every part of the text has been examined and updated to ensure currency and clarity.  Examples of revised coverage include:
