Delivering the highest quality, most intuitive, and most applicable E-Portfolio on the market today, Merrill Education and The Johns Hopkins University are pleased to publishThe Johns Hopkins Digital Portfolio and Guide: Documenting Your Professional Growth.

Johns Hopkins University (JHU) is a nationally recognized leader in the use of portfolios in teacher education. The Johns Hopkins Digital Portfolio is a web-based assessment and presentation application that supports the NCATE theme of professionalism while assisting teachers in creating a portfolio for academic, career, and personal growth.

·      The Johns Hopkins Digital Portfolio is an electronic repository of a teacher's work organized around a defined set of professional principles/standards. It allows for collection and display of artifacts, such as:

o        lesson plans,

o        audio and video clips,

o        sample student work,

o        other web-based materials,

o        an online journal for reflection,

o        and a messaging system promoting collaboration with peers and advisors.

·         Accompanying portfolio guide with access code — introduces teachers to portfolio development and provides them with a step-by-step user guide for accessing and using the JHU Digital Portfolio.

o        This guide provides teachers with a one-time access code, foundational information about portfolio development, a step-by-step user guide for the JHU Digital Portfolio program, and a Resources section with guidelines and practical tips for portfolio development.

FEATURES OF THE JHU DIGITAL PORTFOLIO

  • Web-based environment with user-friendly interface — users can access and input information easily from any computer with Internet access.
    • Whether in their dorm room, in class, or student teaching users can easily add, share, and revise content, send or receive materials for assessment, and access a comprehensive help function.
  • File Cabinet feature — allows users to add artifacts and files to their working portfolio easily

·         Tied to Standards --A school or program can determine the set of standards that will provide the primary organizational structure for their students' portfolios (INTASC, ATE, ISTE, CEC, etc.).

o        INTASC standards are pre-loaded. In addition, teachers can easily input their own sets of local, state, or national standards that may be relevant to their area of expertise.

  • Reinforces and encourages reflective teaching practice - through convenient journal tool
    • Provides space for recording and storing reflections and thoughts about professional experiences and allows for conversion of entries to artifacts in order to help demonstrate growth over time. .

  • Final presentation portfolios - serve as both a showcase of teacher work for prospective employers and a vehicle for continued professional development and reflection.
    • teachers can produce three web-based portfolio presentations simultaneously, tailored for specific uses including completion of a course, an education program, or for employment.
