In Robbins/Coulter Management 9/e, students learn from real managers how to apply management theory. Students are actively engaged in putting concepts into practice– thinking and acting like real managers through the integration of various in-text assignments and unique online activities (Robbins Online Learning System (R.O.L.L.S)).

Robbins/Coulter, put on your management hat.

How do you show students the real world applications of your Principles of Management class?

Steve Robbins is a master at grabbing and holding students’ attention. He weaves vivid workplace examples throughout the book, making the management principles unfold like a great story.

  • Designed to be student-friendly and readable, Robbins/Coulter includes a variety of fascinating examples that pique student interest and make management principles real.

Manager’s Dilemma and Managers Respond to a Manager’s Dilemma - Every chapter opens with an individual Manager’s Dilemma. Students are asked to put themselves into the shoes of that manager and answer the question, What would you do?” Concluding each chapter, Managers Respond to a Manager’s Dilemma then reports how practicing managers from around the world would have responded to the chapter-opening Manager’s Dilemma.

  • Students observe and learn how management theory can be applied to actual individual manager’s dilemmas. This real world connection helps students realize that there are a number of responses to any one dilemma they will likely encounter in their own professional lives.

What activities do you bring into the classroom or assign as homework to engage students and allow them to apply management principles?

Robbins On Line Learning System (R.O.L.L.S.) online activities – These color-coded chapter callouts closely link the text material to interactive modules on the Robbins Online Learning System (R.O.L.L.S.) Web site (www.prenhall.com/rolls). Six elements are divided into three parts:

Demo ROLLS to your professor at http://media.pearsoncmg.com/ph/bp/marketing/rolls/

"Understanding the Concepts": this section explains the theory presented in the book and provides help to students on topics they are not clear on.

  •  Q&A- Designed to be students' 24/7 tutorial, Q&A addresses the questions most frequently asked by students.

"Understanding Yourself": this section helps students learn more about their skills, strengths, and weaknesses.

  • Self-Assessment Library offers students the benefit of taking a self-assessment test immediately after they’ve learned a concept.  SAL assesses students’ knowledge, beliefs, feelings, and actions regarding a wide range of personal skills, abilities, and interests — an excellent way to help students translate theory into practice. E.g. "What's my Emotional Intelligence Score?"
    • SAL increases students’ self-awareness of who they are and how they interact with others. Self-reflection helps students learn, retain, and apply theoretical concepts to their own careers.

"Put On Your Management Hat": this section contains four parts that allow students to apply management theory to realistic business situations.

    • PRISM (Practical Interactive Skills Modules) actually shows students how to manage! This module consists of 12 interactive, decision-tree style skills exercises that provide students with an opportunity to try out different management skills and discover why certain approaches are better than others.
    • Passport makes globalization come alive for students! Using an interactive multi-media approach, Passport teaches students about the globalization challenges that managers inevitably face. In addition to nine different country profiles, Passport also consists of two different global case scenarios at the end of Parts Two, Three, Four, Five, and Six.
    • Putting Ethics into Action helps students understand the ethical challenges they'll face as managers. In these interactive exercises, students are put into the role of a manager to make decisions about current ethical issues on R.O.L.L.S.
    • Diversity in Action teaches students how to manage a changing workforce. These interactive exercises place students in a managerial role to make decisions related to age, gender, or ethnic diversity.

How do you help your students connect the four functions of management?

    NEW- Continuing Case:
Concluding each of the six parts in the book, you’ll find a continuing comprehensive case that follows the challenges managers face at Starbucks. These continuing cases, which profile this one company, offer students another opportunity to “put on their management hat” by looking at the big picture issues from a broad perspective and allowing them to see the connections among the four functions of management.

How do you address the role of technology in management with your students?

NEW- Managing IT box introduces students to the important role of information technology in the manager’s job. From looking at how IT is changing the manager’s job, to IT’s role in company strategy, to IT’s impact on organizational design, students will see how managing IT is another “hat” that managers need to wear.

What do you do in your course to emphasize the importance of leadership?

NEW- Leadership box looks at the leadership issues that affect managers in situations such as the role of national culture in leadership, the moral dimensions of leadership, the way leaders frame issues, and the challenges of leading in today’s nontraditional organizations.

What do you do to address the AACSB standards in your course?

Integrative topics such as globalization, ethics, diversity, customer service, innovation, IT, and leadership have been added throughout the book to help satisfy AACSB standards.

Do you like to cover the new, hot topics that aren’t being covered in your textbook?

    Additional topics:
