Provides clear, concise information about how children become readers and about the important contributions parents can make to their children's growth as readers. Offers “kid-tested” Book Shares (book-sharing activities) which feature 60 children's books to be shared with a child. 8 of the Book Shares highlight special moments in a family's life, including the arrival of a new baby, a child's first sleepover, the first day in kindergarten, and a child's first stay in a hospital. Offers recommendations for more than 400 books and 400 poems for early readers. Convenient end-of-book indexes help parents quickly and easily locate the sharing activity that best suits a child's situation and interests.
I.READY FOR READING.
II.A YEAR'S WORTH OF READING.
I am a speech/language pathologist in New Jersey and discovered your wonderful book
It has become my "Bible" for parents of children with speech and language deficits and possible reading difficulties. This book has given me great ideas. I am in private practice and my clients' parents are all educated. However, most of them have no idea how reading and other everyday environmental situations can result in better language skills. Anyway, thank you for this book.
