Providing 19 in-depth case studies with a strong historical background and theoretical framework, the new edition of this successful supplement for international relations and foreign policy courses is fully updated with a new low price.

Case Histories in International Politics provides a coherent narrative background in international relations so that students understand the key issues and problems in international relations over the last fifty years.

  • Maps and charts throughout text help those with no background on the historical event. This visual material is organized in an accessible way: key events are highlighted in chronologies, key locations are displayed on maps, and key data is summarized in tables.
  • Improved pedagogy now includes a quick, ready-reference chronology of events at the beginning of each chapter; biographies of “key actors” (a list of the central personalities in the case history to help clarify the narrative); debate topics at the end of each chapter pose a central question followed by three “pro” and three “con” statements intended to facilitate lively discussions; and expanded definitions throughout the chapter now give each term a 500-word description with more references to the literature and more explicit linkage to the historical material.
  • Web addresses at the end of each chapter and in the bibliography allow students to directly access government policy papers, current economic statistics, the activities of special interest groups and on-going academic research on particular topics.
  • “Questions to Consider” at the end of each chapter help students consider the implications of the material and relate it to more general concepts and questions in international relations. It also helps them understand how the material relates to their own lives.
