• Analyze:  25 visuals are organized by both thematic topic (identity, place, commerce, culture, history) and rhetorical element, so an instructor can choose what to emphasize.  Students are taught step-by-step how to analyze a visual, by considering one of four different rhetorical elements (audience, author, message, and medium).  “Putting it Together” activites analyze a visual in terms of all four rhetorical elements.
• Compose: In-depth assignments get students either writing about visuals or composing with visuals.  A sequence of steps and relevant tutorials guide students in understanding different genres of visual and multimodal texts, developing their own visual and verbal texts, and revising their drafts.
• How To: Video tutorials provide instruction in how to complete the real world processes students will undertake as they think and write about images, including finding and using images, using images in a presentation, creating a brochure, and composing a photo essay.
