Tested and proven by thousands of students, Pangrazi's best-selling text has been updated to guide prospective teachers through the best step-by-step techniques for teaching physical education while navigating through today's challenging educational terrain.

Well-known educator Robert P. Pangrazi dispels the anxieties many new teachers face by providing the most comprehensive resource for teaching P.E. to elementary school children. This market-leading text covers everything from games and activities suitable for every developmental level to teaching strategies and guidelines for every classroom situation.

Whether instructors are starting a new program, restructuring an established one, or working with a team in an existing system, Dynamic Physical Education for Elementary School Children provides the best combination of theoretical framework and hands-on activities available. The Fourteenth Edition offers new information on current trends, research, and fitness technology, as well as new classroom management techniques and programs for interdisciplinary activities. Outdated games have been removed and new all-inclusive activities have been added. Students will also benefit from new videos demonstrating teaching techniques.

  • A realistic approach to teaching physical education in a world of changing school policies helps teachers better cope with challenges.
  • Modification of all games and lead-up sport activities encourages inclusiveness and eliminates any potential for isolation, thereby promoting cooperative learning and teamwork. It also provides an environment where children of all skill levels can have an equal opportunity to develop individual skills.
  • Additional relaxation activities provide instructors with options intended to calm children down after a period of high-energy activity.
  • The text contains more activities, games, teaching strategies, and instructional cues than any other book on the market.
  • Chapter-opening features adapted from NASPE guidelines indicate which components of quality P.E. programs and which content standards are highlighted in each chapter.
  • Well-organized chapters offer clear summaries for easy review, along with recommended readings and websites for additional research.
  • More than 400 detailed photos and illustrations provide clearly referenced skills instruction.

  • Reflection and Review Questions at the end of chapters prompt classroom discussion and help students reflect on conceptual issues and review chapter content.
  • A lively new design gives the text a fresh look while still retaining the easy-to-use features from the previous edition.
  • The text begins with a new section in Chapter 1 that motivates students early on and gives them a context for the rest of the course. Topics in the new section include “What is Physical Education,” “The Current Status of Physical Education in the U.S.,” and “The Need for Physical Education.” This section also includes new evidence from recent research on the importance of early childhood physical activity for lifelong health.
  • An indispensable new table in Chapter 3, summarizing developmental levels and activities for children of different ages, provides instructors with a quick reference to the concepts covered throughout the text.
  • The text includes the latest findings on the benefits of activity versus fitness for children and the inclusion of numerous strategies for enhancing lifestyle changes.
  • Physical activity is discussed before physical fitness to follow the natural progression of child development from early activity to later fitness training for older children.
  • A new section on conscious discipline focuses on how instructors can become aware of their communication patterns and behaviors, and how that affects discipline and classroom management. The section emphasizes corrective feedback first, then negative consequences, and covers ways to help teachers decrease undesirable behavior in students.
  • A revised discussion in Chapter 11 tackles ways to incorporate other academic subjects into Physical Education, including a new section of science-related activities and recommended readings.
  • New approaches to management and discipline provide instructors with ways to offer feedback without becoming emotionally involved, thereby allowing them to be more effective with difficult youngsters.
  • Online video demonstrations feature Robert Pangrazi teaching P.E. to kids. These demonstrations show students techniques in action and model behavior to follow. Online lessons include “Managing Students in Physical Education,” “Teaching Students Fitness Activities,” and “Teaching Skills to Students.”
  • Childhood obesity and diabetes, two of the fastest growing health problems affecting kids today, are covered to help teachers deal with this emerging trend.
  • New playground-tested games and activities that build confidence and ability while minimizing or eliminating competition are included. There is also increased emphasis on inclusive activities that do not leave kids sitting on the sidelines.
  • Designs for constructing creative playground equipment on a small budget stimulate new ideas for play.
  • Revised Lesson Plans now contain ways to integrate academic concepts into daily instruction. Activities designed to meet content objectives are identified and woven into each lesson plan.
  • An updated Companion Website contains new content from the book for self-testing and weblinks for additional resources.
