Pat Taylor Ellison earned her B.A. in English and Speech-Communication at the University of Minnesota, her M.A. in Teaching at the University of St. Thomas, and her Ph.D. in Adult Education at the University of Minnesota. She has taught English and speech classes for 30 years, mostly for business and broadcasting students, and has won several awards, among them the Award for Faculty Excellence from the Minnesota Association of Private Postsecondary Schools. Currently she coordinates three research teams and works as Developmental Editor for Church Innovations Institute while teaching courses in matching mission to demographics, professional career development, and student survival skills at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. She advises doctoral students on matters of research and thesis construction. She has also served Minnesota School of Business and Globe College of Business as their faculty's professional development trainer.

Dr. Ellison has co-authored two books about interactive small group processes, Learning Together and Being Together. She wrote the extensive lecture notes and teacher materials for Prentice Hall's Instructor's Manual to Applied English. She also co-authored a video workshop for organizations that develop habits for talking together about the challenges they face together. "Saying what you mean to say is a critical skill for such delicate communication," she says. Her research into how adults learn and apply new collaborative skills has made her a sought-after speaker on teaching methods, particularly those that foster the creation of community in the classroom. Her own facility with English, among the three languages she speaks, helps her to write for and train other educators in the art of teaching. She believes in excellent listening and speaking as the primary tools we will need to build community into the future.

James Scannell McCormick earned his B.A. and M.A. in English from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, and his Ph.D. in English at Western Michigan University in 1995. He has taught English and business writing for 13 years at such places as Fullerton College in California, University of Wisconsin at Waukesha, Brown Institute in Minneapolis, Globe College of Business in St. Paul, and Marquette University of Milwaukee.
