For courses in Meeting, Event, Exposition and Convention Planning and Management.
The Meetings, Expositions, Events, and Conventions industry continues to grow and garner increasing attention from the hospitality industry, communities, and college faculty. With a broad view of the industry, this book moves beyond just one segment to include all aspects related to the MEEC industry. Developed as a collaborative work, the text features contributions from some of the best and most notable practitioners and educators in the field. (Using the Delphi method, even the text’s topics were selected based on industry input.) Now in its second edition, this revision features a three-part format, revised material on technology, and coverage of growing industry trends.
George G. Fenich, Ph.D. was a practitioner in the hospitality industry before joining academe in 1985. He is a Professor in the Lester E. Kabacoff School of Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Administration at the University of New Orleans. His doctoral dissertation entitled "The Dollars and Sense of Convention Centers" is one of the seminal works on the subject. Dr. Fenich has written over 25 articles in academic journals and has made almost 75 presentations at national conventions, including those of the Professional Convention Management Association, the International Association of Convention and Visitor Bureaus, and the Association for Convention Operations Management.
Meetings, Expositions, Events, and Conventions (MEEC) is one of the fastest growing segments of the United States economy, and embraces multiple aspects of the hospitality and tourism industry. Communities are increasingly trying to attract conventions and special events, and are spending huge sums of money to build convention centers, stadiums, and arenas. No city is considered "world class" without them. Thus, there is a tremendous need for this book. A panel of industry experts determined the topics covered in this book, such as venues, sponsors, organizers, exhibitions, special events, food R beverage, program planning, convention and visitor bureaus, legal issues, technology, and international issues. This book provides a thorough understanding of the MEEC industry. As such, it is a "must read" for anyone thinking of becoming involved in MEEC, or even those with a passing interest in the subject.
