See the SPSS 15.0 Advanced Statistical Procedures Companion for statistical introductions to some of the more advanced procedures in SPSS, including loglinear and logit analysis for categorical data, multinomial, two-stage and weighted least-squares regression, Generalized Estimating Equations, Generalized Linear Model, Kaplan-Meier, actuarial and Cox models for analysis of time-to-event data, variance components analysis, and ALSCAL.
For additional information, go to<http://www.norusis.com/> This site offers a detailed Table of Contents, features, examples included in the book, and a sample chapter for download.
Whether you are just getting started with statistics or moving into more advanced analyses, this book will help you get the most out of your time and your data and exploit the power of the SPSS system. Here’s what you’ll find:
· An introduction to the SPSS system, with an emphasis on how to prepare data for analysis
· Practical discussions of the statistical background for each of the statistical procedures
· Detailed examples from diverse areas, including psychology, sociology, education, archaeology, medicine, library science, nursing, and journalism
· Numerous tips and warnings to help you work efficiently and avoid common pitfalls
· A CD-ROM containing many of the data sets used in the book
Coverage of statistics starts with the basics and extends to the most powerful modeling procedures, showing you how to:
· Analyze data using simple statistical procedures (descriptive statistics, comparisons of means, correlation, bivariate regression, and nonparametric tests)
· Employ more complex statistical procedures (multiple regression, factor analysis, discriminant analysis, logistic and ordinal regression, cluster analysis, reliability )
· Build models with the general linear model (univariate, multivariate, and repeated measures)
· Analyze categorical data with loglinear models

SPSS® 16.0: Statistical Procedures Companion contains tips, warnings, and examples that will help you take advantage of SPSS to analyze data better. This book is a basic review of the underlying statistical concepts, with an emphasis on the practice of analyzing data. Ideal for both new and experienced users, this companion offers suggestions and strategies for handling the issues that arise when analyzing real data.
SPSS 16.0: Statistical Procedures Companion covers all the statistical procedures in the Base system, the Regression Models, and Advanced Models modules. This book also contains introductory chapters on using the software, creating and cleaning data files, testing hypotheses, and describing data.
Marija Norušis earned a Ph.D. in biostatistics from the University of Michigan. She was SPSS's first professional statistician. McGraw-Hill published her first book, The SPSS Introductory Guide. Since then she has written numerous volumes of highly acclaimed SPSS documentation, and textbooks that demystify statistics and SPSS. Dr. Norušis has been on the faculties of the University of Chicago and Rush Medical College, teaching statistics to diverse audiences. When not working on SPSS guides, Marija analyzes real data as a statistical consultant.
For those whose Lithuanian is rusty:
"Marija" is pronounced "Maria," not "Mar-eye-ja."
"Norušis" is pronounced "Norooshis," not "Neurosis."
