This edition reflects the contemporary focus on evidence-based practice in health care, and the essential concepts for understanding analysis and research design. Expanded topics include measures of diagnostic accuracy, statistical estimates of validity and reliability, systematic reviews and meta-analysis, search strategies and critical appraisal of literature for clinical decision making and development of research. Written for those in the health professions, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, nursing, and exercise physiology, this text will be useful to developing clinicians, practitioners, graduate students and researchers.
- Updated examples to provide students with a relevant context for understanding designs and analyses
- Conceptual description of analytic procedures used in evidence-based practice as well as tables to demonstrate simple calculations
- Algorithm for choosing a statistical procedure based on a study’s design
- Diagrams that aim to assist in a student’s understanding of experimental and observational design variations
- Guidelines for critical appraisal of various types of studies
- Companion website
- Comprehensive glossary
Added:
- Stronger Emphasis on evidence-based practice, including a focus on sensitivity/specificity and likelihood ratios, number needed to treat, measuring clinically meaningful change
- More figures to help with the conceptual understanding principles
