A truly integrated text that takes into account the interdisciplinary perspectives offered by both pharmacists and respiratory therapists. In addition, pharmacology is integrated and linked to physiology and pathology to give a total understanding and enhance  learning.  Integrated Cardiopulmonary Pharmacology  features readability and complete coverage and  is integrated with a unique website that allows for continual updates on new drugs on the market. The authors believe that what is learned with humor is not readily forgotten, so they have used "splashes" of humor throughout the book  They still urge health care professionals to enjoy the humor but not to take their responsibilities lightly.

Learning Hints and Controversies:  These special features are contained in each chapter to ensure understanding of difficult concepts and to stimulate further thought.

Clinical Pearls:  Instances of this special feature are interspersed throughout the chapters to connect the knowledge and show the relevancy of learning the material. In addition, numerous clinical applications are demonstrated to give a “real world” connection.

Key Terms:  Key terms are boldfaced and included in a glossary. In addition, an audio glossary and drug name pronunciations are provided on the Web site. Symbols, units, and abbreviation or medical terms are defined in the chapter opener for easy reference.

Chapter Questions:  Periodic “Stop and Review” problems within each chapter help to ensure concept understanding before a student can move on and get really lost. Comprehensive questions are also included at the end of the chapter; they  build from multiple choice and matching questions to higher-level critical thinking and case-study questions. An interactive chapter exam is also provided on the Web site.

Get Connected to the Web Site:  This special text feature connects the student to a managed companion Web page (www.prenhall.com/colbert). Features include:

Animations:  Highly visual representations of complex concepts can be demonstrated and reinforced via animations.

Videos:  Clinical procedures, drug preparations, and delivery devices can be viewed on quality videos.

Updates:  New information that continually surfaces after the book goes into production, such as new drugs and/or treatments, will be posted  to the pertinent chapter.

Glossary and Drug Pronunciation:  Pharmacological terms and especially drug names are very difficult to pronounce. Therefore, each chapter contains an audio glossary and drug names section.

Extended Concepts:  Additional information concerning topics within each chapter can be expanded upon within the Web site. This can allow students to further pursue knowledge in their own areas of interest.

Chapter Quiz:  A sample chapter NBRC like test can be taken and scored for feedback.

References and Additional Readings:  These are listed per chapter.

New to this Edition

The authors were very gratified by the success of the first edition and have worked hard to make the second edition even better while maintaining the same user friendly writing style that has been well received and keep the rich use of analogies that facilitate learning the material.

The main changes include:

  • Updating and revisions needed in any pharmacology textbook to keep up with the latest advances in this dynamic area.
  • Updated the website (www.prenhall.com/colbert) to make it more robust and now contains NBRC style questions.
  • Added more videos and animations for students viewing pleasure and learning experience.
  • Developed a modifiable PowerPoint presentation for instructors that contain the animations and videos embedded within the presentation.
