An annotated index of applications listed by occupation or trade and by the chapter where the problem is new to this edition.  This index helps students locate certain types of problems more easily.  It is organized alphabetically by trade and then by chapter within each trade.  Problem number is listed first followed by a brief description of the problem followed by the page number.

 

New - Chapter Summaries 

Each chapter includes a summary containing chapter objectives, a preview of the concept covered in the chapter, and a worked example.  Problems that appear in the chapter summary are taken from the corresponding preview.  This provides the student with welcome feedback.  Each chapter ends with a problem set including drill work and applications. 

 

New - Statistics Chapter

This chapter, designed to give students a brief introduction to statistics, has been added for this edition covering practical descriptive statistics including statistical graphs and measures of central tendency and dispersion.
