Appropriate as a supplement to an introductory course in computers, computer literacy, or application software taught in departments of business, CIS, or computer science.

This innovative multimedia CD-ROM program was developed by Prentice Hall and our authors to enhance the material presented in our concepts and application software texts. This dynamic program provides students with an opportunity to explore computers, communication technology, and application software and challenges students to apply their understanding of the technology via interactive exercises.

  • Self-directed—Students are able to select from a menu of four modules:
    • Peripheral Explorer—The user will discover the function of each peripheral component so they know how to make informed purchase decisions.

    • On-Line Explorer—This explorer simulates going on-line. The student can “log on” and learn to navigate the Internet, America On Line, and a bulletin board service.

    • Computer Explorer—Examines the system unit, inside and out (front and rear). The student simply drags the cursor over a component, such as the ram or the processor, to learn more about it.

    • Applications Explorer—Gives the students a better idea of what Application software does. They can explore Office 95 and Office 97 applications and see how these programs can be used to accomplish tasks.

  • Self-paced—Students choose from among five activities available within each module, spending as much time as they need to master the concepts:
    • Introduction—Guides the student through the goal of the module.

    • Exploration—Is the focus on the module and a tool for exploring and interacting with the information within the module.

    • Challenge—Presents a real-world scenario which challenges the student to apply what they have learned in the “exploration”.

    • Quiz—Includes text specific multiple choice, t/f, and fill-in-the-blank questions, many are illustrated with graphics. Students' responses can be stored in a file to print.

    • Glossary—Contains the definitions of the specific terms presented in each module and may be accessed at any time in the program

  • Full multimedia—Animations, audio, photos, figures, video, interactive exercises and activities.
    • Brings the concepts to life.

  • Exciting program with unique user-friendly interface.
    • Makes students and users are immediately comfortable.

  • All instruction and help is on-line.
    • No users-manual is necessary. Exit the program at any time.
