A standard resource for nurses, this drug guide provides safe, effective, current, and accurate drug information in a quickly accessible format. Comprehensive and complete, all drugs are listed alphabetically by generic names for quick referral, with an index that includes both generic and trade names. Included are important clinical information for hundreds of drugs including adverse reactions, interactions, and side effects.

Only handbook to identify prototype drugs — helps students learn pharmacology.

Dosages for neonates, infants, adolescents, adults, and patients with obesity and renal or hepatic impairment

  • Only handbook that consistently breaks dosages down to the level of neonate, infant, and adolescent – an advantage for maternity and pediatric nursing course adoptions.  Also includes dosage requirements for obese patients and patients undergoing dialysis.

Clearly identified IV preparation and push, continuous, or intermittent administration information

  • Only handbook to break down IV drug information with clear instructions for preparing and administering IV’s via push, continuous, or intermittent in a format that is easily accessible for students.   More comprehensive IV information than any other drug guide — eliminates the need for students to buy two drug guides.

Clinically-proven interactions with drugs, food, and herbals, as appropriate

  • Only handbook to include consistently all three types of interactions: drug-drug, drug-food, and drug herbal – assessing for potential interactions is an important role for the nurse.  While other books include interactions, the PH authors only include interactions that have been confirmed and published by the drug companies.

Only drug guide to include a glossary of key signs and symptoms for which nurses should monitor during assessment for side effects, interactions, and impact on lab results.

New for 2009:

  • 235 updates to existing drug monographs covering changes in availability, indications, dosages, contraindications, removals from market, administration, and more.
  • 38 new drugs approved by the FDA in 2007.
  • Dosages across the life span with adjustments clinically relevant conditions
  • Unique glossary of clinical conditions and their related signs & symptoms
