Q. How do you prepare students for your exams?  Do you recommend practice problems?  Do you assign homework?  What types of problems are important?  Would you be interested in problems that progress in level of difficulty?

Heizer/Render recognizes the importance of providing the largest, clearest, and most diverse problem sets in the industry.  The authors have instituted a system that codes all 608 problems in the book, labeling them with a 1, 2, 3, or 4 dot difficulty rating, so that professors can easily assign problems with the appropriate level of difficulty for their students. Solutions to all these are in the Instructor’s Solutions Manual, written by the authors.

Q. When your students are stuck on homework problems, where do they usually turn in the book for help?  Do you work examples into class? Do you find your students struggle with knowing how to approach these problems? Would step-by-step examples to coach students through the process be helpful?

NEW! “Virtual Office Hours” for All Solved Problems in the Text- In the back of each text students will find a DVD that contains video of the authors working out all of the solved problems in the book.  Students can have the classroom experience of an instructor solving problems with explanation at anytime allowing them to have an easier time completing homework assignments.

Worked Out Examples & Solved Problems Step-by-step worked out examples of OM problems are extremely helpful in an analytical course. The chapters contain examples, which are reinforced by 66 end-of-chapter Solved Problems. Further, the student CD and text web site each contain over a hundred additional Practice Problems.

·        Examples: Pg. 16

·        Solved Problems: Pg. 21

NEW! The 9th edition introduces a new way to teach operations management problem solving by taking a pedagogical approach that walks the reader through each example.  In each sample problem, the authors:

1.      State The Problem; Pg. 16

2.      Describe the approach to taking in solving it; Pg. 16

3.      Develop the complete and detailed solution; Pg. 16

4.      Provide insight as to why this solution has relevance; Pg. 16

5.      Give a learning exercise with the answer so the reader can make a change in the problem and resolve; Pg. 16

6.      Note which homework problems relate to this example; Pg. 16

Q. Do you grade homework?  How much time to you spend grading and giving feedback on it? Would you be interested in an online homework resource that offers static/algorithmic problems, student feedback, and can save you time with grading?

Integrated Online Homework with OneKey which includes PH Grade Assist

OneKey provides easy access to all digital resources available with the text, including our powerful online homework resource called PH Grade Assist.

With PH Grade Assist, many of the homework problems and our Test Item File can now be assigned online for students.  With dozens of options for randomizing the sequence, timing, feedback, and scoring, PH Grade Assist makes giving and grading homework and exams an easy task.

Many of the problems have been converted to “algorithmic” form so that you can assign problems where each student has different data.  Plus, the system automatically records the grades into an instructor’s gradebook.
