The Reading Faster and Understanding More developmental work books recognize the inseparable links between comprehension, vocabulary and reading rate.

With vocabulary and study skills instruction integrated throughout, each chapter guides students through the reading comprehension and rate improvement processes and includes exercises to practice these skills. Book 1 features lively readings-from the 6th to 8th grade level-on the Fry test, with the “textbook” chapter at the 9th grade level.

  • Completely updated readings in every book. Approximately 40% of the readings are new and come from both textbook and non-textbook sources such as novels, magazines, and Web pages. Pg.___
  • Increased coverage of vocabulary. Includes a comprehensive“Vocabulary Preview” in each chapter as well as “WordAttack” lessons and instruction on how to use a dictionary at the end of the text. Pg.___
  • All new mastery tests. Added to the end of each chapter, quizzing students on their vocabulary and comprehension of the skills taught in each chapter.
  • Each chapter begins with a unit titled “How to Understand More” followed by a unit titled “How to Read Faster.” This helps students better understand the material so they can practice what they have learned and improve their reading rate and comprehension. Pg.___
  • The Appendix now includes an answer key for all exercises and new progress charts so students can monitor their reading skills and progress. Pg.___
  • Each chapter contains the same theme or topic for both the practice paragraphs and longer readings. This facilitates reading comprehension and related writing and speaking activities. Pg.___
  • Each chapter includes a list of objectives and follow-up reviews (mastery tests in comprehension and vocabulary).
