My students are really loving MyCompLab and learning so much more by having to read and assess themselves. I'm loving it! They say they have learned more about English in the past few weeks than they did in 12 years of school. They just keep going over it until they learn it… I was a dinosaur and was very skeptical of what the technology could do better than I, but my classes are proof positive that this works so much better in today's technological age.

—Sue Tretter, Lindenwood University

MyCompLab has worked really well for us. Students appreciate its ease of use and instructors like the gradebook feature for tracking grades. The best part of it is that it helps faculty to better use their time in class and then assign out-of-class exercises at the web site.

—Michael Hricik, Westmoreland County Community College

“MyCompLab provides an efficient and user-friendly way to follow up on class discussions, allow students to self-test, and encourages writing practice in an informal environment.  I have used a variety of MyCompLab tools throughout my freshman composition courses.  Before in-class essays, I offer extra credit to students who write practice essays from the "Activities" section; they enjoy the relevant, multimedia topics and are noticeably more prepared to respond to an essay prompt after practicing online.  Another extremely useful MyCompLab tool is the section on plagiarism and documentation.  After these issues are introduced in class, students can demonstrate mastery of the concepts by completing the series of quizzes and exercises in either MLA or APA style.  The tools I use the most are in the "Process" section, where students can submit a variety of pre-writing and revision exercises in preparation for major essays or as opportunities to improve.  Overall, I feel my students have enjoyed using the site and have benefited as writers...”

-- Laura Jeffries, Florida Community College at Jacksonville

“MyCompLab is an excellent academic resource for the composition classroom.  My students and I love the Exchange peer review tool.  Students get the benefit of peer review without taking valuable lecture time PLUS I can respond to their drafts in an easy online format!  Another feature that I strongly recommend is the Avoiding Plagiarism section.  Since I started to assign that section to my composition classes, I have seen dramatic improvement in student understanding of concepts like use of signal phrase, appropriate use of paraphrase and summary, and how to distinguish when source material is common knowledge.  The interactive quizzes for these sections give students immediate feedback and thanks to Grade Tracker I get a clear sense of what areas of documentation to focus on in the classroom.  Thanks for the opportunity to gush about MyCompLab!”

- Robin Sprague, Hawkeye Community College

“My students are really loving MyCompLab and learning so much more by having to read and assess themselves.  I'm loving it!  They say they have learned more about English in the past few weeks than they did in 12 years of school.  They just keep going over it until they learn it… they quickly become encouraged when they use the program and see their grades constantly go up.  In no other class do they get daily feedback to keep track of their grades.  The students and I have fun with MyCompLab, and the students who have taken the subsequent composition course with me have shown great improvement in their writing skills.  Other professors have reported that these students do well in their courses also. I was a dinosaur and was very skeptical of what the technology could do better than I, but my classes are proof positive that this works so much better in today's technological age.”

-- Sue Tretter, Lindenwood University

“Computer programs should help the teacher accomplish what they want toaccomplish, not mandate how the teacher has to teach. MyCompLab is broad enough and

versatile enough to serve that end.  I've been on a quest to figure out how to improve student writing and decrease my time grading.  MyCompLab has been a great resource toward realizing those goals.

-- Susan Grover, Brigham Young  University — Idaho

“For students, MyCompLab is like having a writing practice lab, several textbooks, a library, a testing center, a peer-review group, and an Internet search engine all in one. For instructors, MyCompLab can be as straightforward as a web-based resource tool; or as complete as an integrated course management program, providing assistance with diagnostic testing, developing assignments, monitoring student writing, and managing grades.”

--Timothy Dillon, Monroe Community College

MyCompLab offers critical tools to assist students in their writing projects.  With a variety of activities for students to engage in during invention, drafting, and editing, MyCompLab walks students through the steps that will help them work through their ideas and create successful papers.  The Exchange peer review tool allows for anywhere from highly scaffolded peer review assignments to extremely flexible peer review processes. Both the Exchange and Grade Tracker gradebooks provide a variety of opportunities to assess, track and/or assign grades to different activities that allow for vertical (all the same student) or horizontal (the same assignment across all the students) viewing and assessment.”

-- Rochelle Rodrigo, Maricopa Community College

“Instead of writing the same responses, over and over, to the most common errors in student essays, Exchange allows me to simply click and insert my saved comments.  Now I have more time, and the comments I do write are personalized.  Using Exchange brought me the only “thank you” I’ve ever received for grading, and here it is:
‘Dr. Caver,
I would like to thank you for the very insightful review of my Mr. Adams’s essay. I am impressed with the MyCompLab method and I'm sure it makes grading and commenting much easier for you. I have never had a paper returned with so much usable feedback.
Thomas Wilson, Spring WRC 1023.023, University of Texas at San Antonio’”

-- Christine Caver, University of Texas at San Antonio
