Solving the Mystery of Reading provides developmental reading students with the strategies, practice, and critical thinking skills necessary to become successful readers.  A unique mystery theme is carefully woven throughout each chapter providing students with thought-provoking readings covering various mysteries in the areas of history, sociology, and science.


 

  • Mystery theme. The book provides 20 “mystery” readings from around the world intended to be of interest to and suitable for a developmental adult reader. These readings will not only build the reader’s background knowledge, but they will also help students to develop a more global worldview.
  • Organization. The book is organized to provide step-by-step development of vocabulary and comprehension strategies along with repeated opportunities for students to build on and practice strategies and skills introduced in previous chapters.
  • Offers a wide variety of exercises for students with different reading abilities. Throughout the book students will find exercises that best suit their reading ability. Basic-level exercises are written for all students. Challenge-level exercises are provided for those students who are ready to try more difficult work. Mastery-level exercises take the most effort.
