The first of its kind, The Microbe Files: Cases in Microbiology for the Undergraduate provides allied health and non-major microbiology students with a fascinating series of short cases that help them apply what they have learned in the course. It's available in two versions: with or without the answers to the cases.

• Forty-eight cases cover the body's six major systems with four to six questions per case. The questions encourage students to work through the sequence of determining a diagnosis.
• Students learn to apply the material by playing the role of various allied health workers, including triage nurse, physician's assistant, and EMS technician.
• The book is organized by body system and follows the topic order of most undergraduate allied health courses.
• Prepares allied health students to provide patient education by asking them to choose the appropriate education and/or prevention intervention (as opposed to laboratory diagnosis).
• "Challenge" and "In the News" cases bring microbiology to life by covering current, and often controversial, topics in the health field.
• Helpful end-of-chapter material includes a table at the end of each chapter that shows all of the microorganisms that could be considered in that particular organ system.
• Key terms defined. All new medical terms are in boldface and are defined in the glossary.
• Instructors have greater versatility by having two options: to assign the casebook either with or without the answers to the cases.
