Mastering the World of Psychology is an interactive learning text that teaches students psychology by showing them how to apply it to their lives.

A good psychology textbook must communicate clearly to its diverse audience. Mastering the World of Psychology is appealing to accomplished students, yet accessible to students whose academic skills are yet to be fully developed. Mastering recognizes that different students have different learning styles and addresses that challenge by offering a wide variety of pedagogical support tools that will help students succeed. No book on the market does more to help students get better grades than Mastering the World of Psychology.

  • Denise Boyd of Houston Community College joins Samuel Wood and Ellen Green Wood as an author of the first edition of Mastering the World of Psychology. Boyd has extensive experience with teaching students from varied ages, economic, educational, and cultural backgrounds. Along with her substantial teaching experience, Boyd brings to the author team a background in learning and development, which results in enhancing an already student-friendly text.
  • Mastering the World of Psychology has additional study tools to ensure that students have every resource needed to succeed in class—
    • Built-In Study Guide. Following each chapter, students are provided with a study guide to reinforce key concepts.

    • Practice Tests. For additional study, two practice tests per chapter are found at the end of the text. Each practice test has 20 multiple-choice questions, 10 True/False questions, and several short-answer questions to challenge students' recognition and recall skills.

    • Tutor Center. Every copy of Mastering the World of Psychology is packaged with access to the Tutor Center, providing free, high-quality, one-on-one tutoring to students. Qualified tutors will answer questions students have about material in the text. The Tutor Center is open when students need the most help—in the late afternoon and evenings, 5:00-12:00pm (EST), Sunday-Thursday during the academic calendar. For more information, visit www.aw.com/tutorcenter/psych.

    • Research Navigator. Research Navigator helps students quickly and efficiently make the most of their research time, and write better papers. Research Navigator is complete with extensive help on the research process and includes three exclusive databases of credible and reliable source material—EBSCO's ContentSelect Academic Journal Database, The New York Times Search by Subject Archive, and the “Best of the Web” Link Library. For more information, visit www.researchnavigator.com.

    • MyPsychLab is an exciting new learning and teaching tool designed to increase student success in the classroom, and quickly and easily give instructors access to every imaginable resource needed to teach and administer an introductory psychology course. For more information, visit www.mypsychlab.com for a demonstration.

    • Solutions Manual— A separate solutions manual allows students to check their answers to the practice tests, and indicates where further study is needed.

  • Mastering the World of Psychology has multiple interactive elements designed to reinforce concepts learned in the chapter:
    • Margin Learning Questions and “Summarize It!” Margin Learning Questions ask key concept questions in every section. Found at the end of every chapter, “Summarize It!” repeats the margin learning questions and provides the answers.

    • “Try It!” encourages students to learn by doing—simple experiments, self-assessments, and activities are found throughout the text.

    • “Apply It!” helps students apply psychological principles to problems and issues that surround their personal lives.

Each chapter concludes with “Apply It!,” “Summarize It!,” “Surf It!” and “Study Guide.”
